GE Aviation – GE Aviation LEAP Fuel Nozzle
Challenge

Traditional fuel nozzle required 20 welded parts with complex internal cooling channels. Manufacturing was labor-intensive and prone to quality issues.

Solution

Redesigned as single 3D-printed cobalt-chrome part using electron beam melting (EBM). Consolidated 20 parts into 1 with integrated complex internal geometry.

Outcomes
  • 0125% weight reduction
  • 0230% cost savings
  • 035x more durable than welded design
Technologies
EBM
